Cotton Pygmy Goose

It proved to be a case of fifth time lucky this morning, when a trip to Guan Tian finally produced the highly desired Cotton Pygmy Goose Nettapus coromandelianus. An individual had been reported some weeks ago, but this had risen to two (both females, perhaps siblings) as of Tuesday last week. Thanks to some help from the warden, both were relocated this morning, though they chose to remain at considerable distance and were far from easy to find (let alone photograph).

I was hoping I would be able to pick these up as I had arranged to be tipped off as and when they showed up again. These birds moved me on to 460 for the year, about where I was expecting to finish, and anything above and beyond this now will constitute a very welcome bonus. Above photos taken at Guan Tian, Tainan County 13/12/16.
